A note from Alex Thank you to everyone I’ve met so far for making me feel so welcome and I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone else as soon as possible. It’s a big change for the Aldingbourne Trust - Sue is an awesome leader and has built an incredible organisation over many years, which is clearly making a significant difference to the lives of so many people. I’m lucky that I get to work with Sue for a month as we make the transition, and we’re both really keen to make sure that the handover is as smooth as possible. Change and uncertainty can be daunting and uncomfortable, and I understand that. So, in an attempt to help with this I thought I would share some brief information about me, my background and who I am. I started my career as a fundraiser in 1998 working in international development at CARE International specialising in events, corporate partnerships and then major donor fundraising. I moved to the National Deaf Children’s Society in 2003 to lead on their events, corporate and community fundraising before becoming a Director of Fundraising and Marketing at Richard House Children’s Hospice in London in 2008. From there I became the CEO of an outdoor education charity which ran centres around the UK, providing environmental and adventure education to children. More recently, I was the CEO at Guild Care, a Worthing-based social care charity helping them to get through Covid and then recover and rebuild focusing on modernization and transformation. And finally, I was the CEO at Tinnitus UK for a relatively short period, helping them to rebuild following several years of financial problems. As you can see a career with some incredible charities, but key to them all was commercial success. I believe that charities have a duty to use their resources as effectively and as efficiently as possible to support the most people in the best way, and to do that charities need to be commercially successful. I am driven by helping charities to unlock potential and build real social value, and I cannot wait to really start to get to grips with planning the next chapter of this incredible organization - together with you all. I live in East Preston with my wife, Genevieve, son Mani (12) and daughter Dee (8) having moved from London via Kent 5 years ago. My interests include mountains (or hills these days), watching football (rather than playing it now!) and golf. I am very keen to hear what you think and will be conducting a more structured approach to finding out, but in the meantime do get in touch. It does not matter who you are, or what you have to say, if you have something you would like me to know or a question, I will always find time to listen. You can contact me on Teams or email alexbj@aldingbourne.org and I guarantee a response! I look forward to working with you Alex, Chief Executive Officer |
